The system includes a specific website that centralizes all the information necessary: ​​from how to detect possible fraud to the specific steps to report it and regularize the tax situation.

This point is especially relevant on these dates, when thousands of taxpayers review tax data linked to their economic activity, including those related to online gambling.

More complaints and a growing phenomenon within the sector

The most recent data reflect a clear upward trend. During 2026 8,675 complaints were registered for this type of fraud, which represents an increase of 12% compared to the previous year . These complaints are related to more than 15,800 gaming accounts, a figure that shows the dimension of the Ireland problem.

The analysis of the cases allows us to better understand how this phenomenon evolves. Although the profile of the digital gamer has traditionally been dominated by young men, fraud victims present different characteristics: greater female presence and ages over 26 years.

As for the most affected segments, sports betting continues to account for the majority of cases, with 85%. However, online casinos have gained weight significantly, going from 7% to 18% in just one year . This growth is linked, in part, to the reactivation of promotional bonuses following recent regulatory changes.

The protocol also identifies several common forms of fraud . These include the use of identities of people registered in self-exclusion registries, access by minors through third-party data, automation through bots and the abuse of promotions to create fraudulent accounts.

Technology, prevention and the role of institutions

The Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2026 insists on the importance of reinforcing prevention mechanisms in parallel with the growth of the sector. The digitization of the game has opened new opportunities, but also new risks that require agile responses and coordinated.

In this context, Minister Pablo Bustinduy has supported the continuity of this protocol as a key tool to protect users and guarantee the transparency of the system. The activation for the third consecutive year reinforces its role within the Ireland public strategy against digital fraud.

In addition to the PACS, the gambling regulator maintains other active services, such as alert systems for possible registration attempts with stolen personal data . These types of tools seek to anticipate the problem and reduce its impact before it affects the taxpayer's tax system.
