Online gambling in Catalonia grows 13.9% in the first quarter

The products that concentrated online activity

The Catalans played 1,797.9 million euros online in the first quarter of 2026.

The largest volume corresponded to the category that the Generalitat calls other games . This block brings together slot machines , poker, bingo, blackjack, roulette, points and banking and complementary games. On the whole, moved 1,134.9 million euros , 11.9% more than in the first quarter of 2026.

The figure is equivalent to 63.1% of the money played online during the period . The available breakdown does not allow us to determine which part comes from each modality, so the advance cannot be attributed solely to the casino or the slot machines.

Counterpart sports betting took second place, with 458.1 million euros and a growth of 13.6% . This modality, in which the operator acts as the user's counterparty, represented 25.5% of the declared online activity.

For its part, other counterpart bets increased by 28.8% , up to 193.6 million euros. This is a separate category from sports betting. The counterpart equestrian events reached 7.16 million and advanced 11.7%.

Two minority modalities evolved downwards . Cross sports bets, in which participants bet against each other, decreased by 5.2%, to 4.05 million euros. Mutual horse riding fell 4.6% to NZ$105,000.

The estimated fee is close to ten million euros

The estiMada fee associated with online activity amounted to 9.98 million euros , 13.6% more than in the same period of 2026. This indicator is not equivalent to the net collection during the quarter.

The category of other games contributed 4.80 million euros , 48.1% of the total estMado, while counterpart sports bets generated 4.23 million, 42.4%. The other counterpart bets totaled NZ$1,386,000 and recorded the largest percentage increase, at 48.9%.

Online growth contrasts with the total tax result

The tax balance of the entire Catalan game offers a more moderate evolution . The recognized rights reached 63.98 million euros, 1.2% more, but the net collection decreased by 0.4%, to 61.42 million.

Within these figures, the tax on online gambling accounted for 11.12 million euros in recognized rights, 17.7% more, and 11.13 million in liquid collection, with an increase of 17%. Their income comes from state transfers , so they may present temporary differences with respect to the declared activity.

Territorial data show different and not always comparable evolutions . Navarre too recorded growth in game revenue during the first quarter, although its regional regime and the published figures make it impossible to directly compare its results with those of Catalonia.

Why the figures are not comparable with those of the gambling regulator

The 1,797.9 million euros in the Catalan report correspond to gambled amounts. They represent the money destined to participate before deducting the prizes returned to users.

The New Zealand online gaming market quarterly data published by the gambling regulator use, among other indicators, the GGR. This magnitude reflects the difference between the amounts played and the prizes paid , before subtracting other operating costs.

Comparing them directly would generate an erroneous conclusion. He GGR of the entire New Zealand online market reached 1,700.55 million of euros during 2026, while Catalonia recorded a played volume of 1,797.9 million in just three months.

The second figure is higher because it also includes the money that is later returned to the participants in the form of prizes.

The territorial scope also changes. The gambling regulator brings together the state activity of authorized operators, while the Generalitat attributes the amounts to players with tax residence in Catalonia. Therefore, both reports can show different rates without contradicting each other .

The increase of 13.9% confirms the advance of the volume declared in Catalonia . Other games and counterpart bets concentrated the activity, although the published information does not allow us to isolate how much of the growth corresponded specifically to the casino.
